Another Patrol Banquet In The Books

Last night was the Ski Patrol awards banquet, and part of the reason we went this time was because it was up at Timberline Lodge instead of a hotel ballroom/banquet hall in town. Forgetting that it was still basically February up there, we didn't grab coats or anything. It was 35 degrees or so when we got up there, and about 30 or so when we left. Poor B was freezing her tookus off on the walk from the lodge back to the car, but the Sorento's heater is no slouch, so it wasn't too long before she was warmed up. I can only imagine how funny I looked in a suit and tie standing on the running boards of the Sorento to scrape the windshield...

We had a good time, and sat with the recently-former patrol director for Timberline, who is now the Silcox Hut host. Might have to go visit him the next time I'm up at T-flats. They gave him a meritorious service award, which was nice. He's been great to the patrol in general, and I personally have enjoyed working with him up there.

The program seemed to drag on, and I don't remember last year's banquet lasting as long as this one did. It was really nice to see the apprentices I helped coach go up and get their plaques and patrol badges, and the presentations for Hill and Associate Apprentice of the Year.

They did the 'Superheroes' thing again, where the people in the top 10% in Days of Service get recognized, and I got one of those again this year. No real surprise, given how many days I've patrolled.

What was a surprise was getting Honorable Mention for Hill Patroller of the Year. I wasn't expecting much more than a "thank you" mention from the training director for helping coach, so to be put in the kind of company of patrollers who've put in more days than I have and worked more cases than I have was quite a surprise.

We bailed right after the awards part of the program, since we were both really tired, and not feeling particularly well. The drive home off the mountain was pretty hairy due to some pretty thick fog. B did awesome, though.

B-news, you're hilarious, man. :) We gonna patrol together at The Large Ski Area this season, or are you done?
