Valiant Effort, Koz

US alpine ski racer Kristina Koznick, who partially tore some knee ligaments only a few weeks ago, put forth a gutsy effort in the Women's Olympic Slalom yesterday. After having been on crutches for weeks, and not having had any surgery to repair the damage, she went ahead and tried to race in what is probably her last Olympics. She finished her first run well behind the leaders, and you could tell from the footage that she couldn't really put a good load on the injured leg to get the ski to bite. She ended up opting not to ski the second run, to avoid making the knee any worse.

Having skied on a bum ankle, and on a slightly sprained knee, I can tell you it's no picnic. I can't imagine skiing on partially torn knee ligaments, though. That's a whole other order of magnitude of tough right there. Hope you get better soon, Koz!
